Should 9-11 be known as a National Holiday for United States..?

Unfortunately, I think that 9-11 will eventually be filed away with Pearl Harbor and D-Day. It'll be under that category of days that we're supposed to remember, but many of us don't. This is what I think will happen, but I still hope that it doesn't.

This generation probably will remember it for the rest of their lives, and the next one as well because you know those grandpa's are gonna continuesdly say "Back in my day." I think the memory will last two generations

So long as we choose to remember it, future generations will.

I don't think it should be a holiday. A long moment of silence should be held, then get on with your day.

I guess I'm just weird but I remember Pearl Harbor and D-day when they come around, but maybe that's just because I actually read about them.

I think that many of the reasons these things are forgotten is that they aren't remembered as much as they should be in many history books and such. Sure there are plenty of books on the subjects, but when you get in your history text book in class, there really isn't much on each thing. I even had one that only listed Pearl Harbor month, and not the full date...

I think people will continue to remember 9/11 mainly because it was the first major direct attack on us since, well the war of 1812.

If they were to make 9/11 a holiday and or memorial day, they wouldn't do it right away. maybe years from now, but definately not anytime soon. I hope they don't though, it just doens't seem right.

I'm new by the way, so Hello everyone.

Greetings, LQ! Welcome to the Escapepod!

I don't think 9-11 ought to be a holiday, simply because the day Pearl Harbor was attacked isn't, nor are any of the days where we have been either attacked or led into battle. Perhaps Memorial Day will expand to encompass this day beneath its envelope.

Regarding the upcoming one-year anniversary, I plan to go out and do something, to live life as I have been. Nothing is a more fitting memorial than to show those ignorant (refrains from saying what she wants to say) who attacked us that our life WILL INDEED GO ON, even though they did this to us.

No better thumb in the face than that... and I'm sure all those who were killed would want it this way.

Yeah - we do have Pearl Harbor day but it was an event in the midst of a declared war - albiet not for us but for the rest of the world, and it was only a military target which we "expect" to be targets of foreign militaries should they wish to engage us in war, but what happened on 9/11 was different - it was civilians not just military. As for me I will definitely be remembering on that day - I lost too much of my family in the towers to not think of them, and i am debating whether or not to go to the Interfaith vigil in town, though I don't know what i would do if I got a loved ones candle (they are bio-ing all the candles for each victim) other than that I will be spending as much time as possible with my friends - just thankful they are all still here.
