These swords (at least to my knowledge) were not designed by the sith, but by the dark jedi. They are swords that are alchemly altered by the dark side. These blades are able to fully deflect blaster bolts like a lightsaber, and are able to channel the dark side of the force to make there blades sharper than any other sword. There are numerous variations to these swords as well.
