OK, I know I haven't posted lately... and this is going to sound like same song, second verse, BUT...Once again the sun is shooting out solar flares. In fact, it has been doing this for the past month or so. About three weeks ago the largest sunspot in 10 years (86,800 miles in diameter, the same as 13 earths) blasted out with several flares; we have had several since that time, and today the largest (categorized as X-14) shot out from an active group, luckily away from us. It's a good thing: the last time one that big blasted the earth it blacked out a goodly portion of the Canadian electric grid, and wreaked havoc with satellites!
Anyhoo, keep alert to the sun's activity, for activity of this sort means low latitude aurora--at least when the flares are directed toward the earth. I'll keep everyone posted.
