Are they even trying to do it?

We can simulate gravity as they do in the movies and such by putting spin on a station. This this creates an outward force; being on the inside of the spinning object, we would feel apparent "gravity" getting stronger the farther we move from the axis of rotation. Ie: we would be "plastered" against the walls (which would be designed as floors). At the center of rotation, there would be no force felt.
This isn't true gravity; we don't really understand that yet. Gravity is merely the attraction of anything that has mass toward anything else that has mass. Gravity is one of the Four Forces in nature: gravity, electromagnetic force, strong nuclear force and weak nuclear force. Physicists are seeking the Great Unification Theory, where the last three forces can be described (mathematically) as various responses of the same particle. Gravity stands alone, and to my knowledge, science is still seeking out the mysterious "graviton" particle.
But create real artificial gravity? I don't think so....
